Recycling Ideas for Valentine's Day!
Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 8:03AM
It’s Valentine’s Day! A day to tell loved ones how much you really love them! Usually this encompasses cards, flowers, chocolate hearts, teddy bears, and if you are really lucky, jewelry! But what do you do when all the chocolate is gone and flowers are starting to wilt?
- Compositon. This is a great in-expensive way to naturally fertilize gardens and lawns. As the flowers begin to die, remove individual buds and add to the composition bin. You can buy a composition bin at places like Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, ect… or if you are handy, build a small box outside for the flower waste. Removing the buds as soon as they die will help keep the remaining "live" buds to live longer.
- Potpourri. This is a great way to keep your Valetine’s Day flowers longer! Once the buds are dried up, you can start the potpourri process! This is also a great inexpensive way to have your home smelling beautiful! And remember, be creative! Try different oils and spices! For recipes and how to, click here.
Before you decide what to do when the flowers die, make the most out of them! Remember to cut the stems under warm running water. Keep warm water in the vase, and change the water every two days. Also, start to remove the outer buds that start to wilt. Remember to keep the outer buds to for fertilizer or potpourri!

New Year's Resolution
Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 9:00AM It's that time of year again-New Year Resolutions! Most resolutions are to lose weight, become more organized, spend more time with family, and to save money. But what about recycling? Just in case you forgot; Recycling is the process of taking used materials, aka waste, into new produts to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution. So now that you understand what recycling is, how can you help?
You can recycle more things than you think! Electronics, paint, medication, batteries, plastics, clothing,
furniture, oils, dirt, automative matierals, glass, brick, pallets, wood, cardboard, and paper. Most of these items can be placed out on your city curbside programs, or Neoshred can help!
Recycling one ton (2,000 pounds) of paper can save: 17 trees, 410 gallons of fuel, 4,200 KW of energy, and 7,000 Gallons of water! This year, make your New Year's Resolution to recycle more! You can make it a family game. The person to recycle the most wins! You can teach your kids how to separate each item: cans, plastics, and papers into different bins, then explain to them why it is important to do so. Not only will you save money by recycling, you will be preserving your environment! It's time to do you part and be aware! Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!
Happy New Year!
